  Michael Noble returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter as Texas A&M-Commerce scored 31 unanswered points to wallop Houston Christian, 31-3 to go to 3-0 in Southland Conference play Saturday. Nery Enriquez kicked a 47-yard field goal with 4:51 left in the first quarter to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead, but Eric Rodriguez answered with a 15-yard pass to Andrew Armstrong to make it 7-3 at intermission after each team punted six times in the first half.

Emmanuel Adagbon connected on a 49-yard field goal with 10:24 left in the third quarter and, on Houston Christian's first play from scrimmage on their next possession, Noble added his pick-six to make it 17-3. Cameron Nellor scored on a six-yard run and J.T. Smith added a 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Justin Fomby threw for 110 yards on 23-of-43 passing for Houston Christian (2-5, 1-3), which managed just 206 yards of total offense. Rodriguez threw for 209 yards, completing 17 of 30 attempts.   OCT 17 SOUTHLAND OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Armstrong, Texas A&M-Commerce - WR - So. - Dallas, Texas (Bishop Dunne HS),...Armstrong had nine receptions for 113 yards and added two more touchdown catches on Saturday evening in the Lions' 40-15 win over McNeese. Both of his touchdown catches were of significance as his first touchdown gave A&M-Commerce its first points of the game and his second touchdown started a run of 33 unanswered points. He leads all FCS receivers with 11 touchdown catches and is second among all receivers in all three NCAA Divisions. Honorable Mention: Lindsey Scott, UIW. - Southland Football

  Andrew Armstrong caught three of Eric Rodriguez's four first-half touchdown passes and Texas A&M-Commerce defeated Division II-member Lincoln University (California) 52-7 in a season opener on Thursday night. It was the first game as a FCS member for the Lions, who will play in the Southland Conference this season. Rodriguez and Armstrong teamed up for a 17-yard score in the first quarter before connecting for TDs covering 96 and 21 yards in the second. Rodriguez hit Jaden Proctor for a 27-yard score to give the Lions a 35-0 halftime lead. Max Epps returned an interception 39 yards for a TD in the first quarter. Rodriguez added a fifth TD throw - to BJ Busbee - in the third quarter and finished with 269 yards on 12-of-16 passing with one interception.
