SEPT 27 BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Gardner-Webb running back Donovan Jones (Miami, Fla.) rushed for a career-high 102 yards and two touchdowns to help rally Gardner-Webb past Western Carolina. His six-yard TD run with less than two minutes to play in the third quarter gave GWU the lead for good at 38-34. Jones later put the game out of reach with a 79-yard sprint to the end zone for the final margin. Four of his six carries went for either first downs or touchdowns. Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Andrew Brown (North Carolina A&T). - Big South Football
