It wasn't that long ago that Boise State quarterback Taylen Green was a wide-eyed freshman, trying to balance class and football in what should have been his last semester in high school. "I was an early enrollee, and I was like, 'Whoa, this is not high school," Green told reporters after the Broncos' first spring practice on Thursday. "Everything is faster, and the quarterback play is a little different from high school."Green burst onto the scene last season as a redshirt freshman. He took over as the starter after Hank Bachmeier decided to transfer four games into the season. The moment wasn't too big for Green. He went 8-2 as the starter, and racked up 119 rushing yards and three total touchdowns in the Broncos' 35-32 win over North Texas in the Frisco Bowl. Things are a little different for him this March. He's gone from wide-eyed freshman to wily veteran. Boise State quarterback Taylen Green accounted for 256 yards and three touchdowns and the Broncos beat North Texas 35-32 in a back-and-forth Frisco Bowl at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night. Green, who is from nearby Lewisville, ran for two touchdowns dur ing Boise State’s bowl-program-record 22-point third quarter that saw five lead changes. He added 137 passing yards and one touchdown in Boise State’s first bowl victory since 2017. Freshman running back Ashton Jeanty ran for 178 yards as Boise State (10-4) piled up a season-high 320 yards rushing. The Broncos outscored North Texas 29-22 in the second half after the Mean Green led 10-6 at the break.Both teams lost their conference championship games, Boise State in the Mountain West and North Texas (7-7) in Conference USA. Mean Green coach Seth Littrell was fired after the title game loss, which left him with a 44-44 record in seven seasons. Defensive coordinator Phil Bennett was the interim head coach for the bowl game, days after Eric Morr is was hired as Littrell's replacement. Austin Aune, the 29-year-old quarterback for North Texas, completed 17 of 32 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. But the junior threw two interceptions, including one on the second play of the fourth quarter th at set the Broncos up for Jeanty’s 1-yard touchdown that gave Boise State an 11-point lead. Taylen Green threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another, Boise State's defense intercepted two passes in the fourth quarter, and the Broncos staved off a late rally to defeat Utah State 42-23 on Friday afternoon. Boise State (9-3, 8-0), which fin ished undefeated in conference play for the third time in four years, will host Fresno State in the Mountain West Conference championship game on Dec. 3. Utah State (6-6, 5-3) has lost 19 of the last 20 games against Boise State, last winning in Boise in 1996. Despite the lopsided final score, the Aggies had a chance to steal the game, driving to the Boise State 11 with less than two minutes to go before the wheels came off.Cooper Legas, who finished 23 of 40 passing for 306 yards and rushed for 51 more, rallied Utah State to within 28-23 before throwing a pair of interceptions in the game's final 1:28, including a pick six. Green, who completed 14-of-23 passes for 224 yards, iced the game for the Broncos with a 91-yard scoring run with 1:09 rem aining. Taylen Green threw for a touchdown and ran for another, George Holani had 132 yards rushing on 20 carries and Boise State beat Wyoming 20-17 Saturday night to clinch the Mountain division title with a week left in the regular season. Boise State (8-3, 7- 0 Mountain West), which will host the conference championship game on Dec. 3, is 16-1 all-time against Wyoming and has won each of the last six in the series. Billy Bowens caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Green to give the Broncos their first lead of the game - and cap the scoring - with 7:20 to play. JL Skinner intercepted a pass from Wyoming's Jayden Clemons that appeared to seal the Broncos' victory but three plays later Gavin Meyer forced a fumble by Holani and DeVonne Harris returned it 44 yard s to the 21 with 45 seconds to play. Quarterback Taylen Green and George Holani each had more than 100 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, and Boise State shut out San Diego State in the second half and rolled to a 35-13 victory over San Diego State on Friday night. It was Boise State's first game without former starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier, who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, and former offensive coordinator Tim Plough, who was fired after last week's 27-10 loss to UTEP. Former Boise State head coach Dirk Koetter is now the Broncos offensive coordinator. Bachmeier started 29 games over a four-year career, throwing for more than 6,600 yards and 41 touchdowns. Yet he completed a career-low 54% of his passes for fewer than 500 yards in four games this season.Green finished with 105 yards rushing on eight carries and completed 5 of 10 passes for 48 yards with one interception. Holani had 131 yards rushing on 17 carries. The Aztecs jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead before Green ran for a 17-yard touchdown. Holani's 12-yarder gave the Broncos the lead for good. Green's 39-yard TD run stretched the Broncos' lead to 28-13, and Holani capped the scoring with a 29-yard scoring run.
