Malik Matthew, a three-star linebacker from the class of 2021, has decided to leave Syracuse football and is entering the transfer portal. Though Matthew has yet to make an official announcement and the team did not confirm his departure, his Twitter bio reads "Transfer Outside Linebacker CO '25." The news of Matthew's transfer was reported earlier by 247Sports and Sports Illustrated.Matthew redshirted his freshman season with the Orange last fall and did not appear in any games. Syracuse returns its three starting linebackers from 2021 - Mikel Jones, Marlowe Wax and Stefon Thompson - for the upcoming season. At the time of his commitment to Syracuse, Matthew said he chose the Orange because he "felt like the relationships (with the coaching sta ff) were genuine." A top-rated linebacker in New York according to 247Sports, Matthew had offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Kent State and Rutgers while in high school. He was also considered the No. 4 prospect in the state. - The Post-Standard
