The University of Akron football team will play Auburn Saturday at 7 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium in the typical David versus Goliath non-conference game that tends to open the season. It would have been nice to have a running back with breakaway potentia l, who averaged 5.9 yards per carry and rushed for six touchdowns in a COVID-19 abbreviated, six-game season last year. However, Teon Dollard won't be there on the Zips' sideline anytime in the future, UA Director of Athletics Charles Guthrie said. Dolla rd was arrested by the Ohio Highway Patrol for suspicion of OVI Saturday in Ravenna.Guthrie could provide no information on Dollard's status with the university off the field. On the field is a different story. "What I can tell you from a football perspective, which is an extracurricular activity, he is no longer on our football team," Guthrie said. Prior to the arrest, Dollard's situation remained in limbo in part due to a felony weapons charge from this past spring in which he was caught with a loaded 9mm pistol without a license. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and entered a guilty plea earlier this summer. It was held in suspension for a year with the stipulation that he join the Intervention in Lieu of Conviction diversion p rogram. - Akron Beacon Journal

A University of Akron football player is facing a felony weapons charge after he was accused of having a loaded gun without a license to carry it earlier this month. Teon Dollard recently was indicted in Summit County Common Pleas Court on a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. Dollard, UA's star running back, has been suspended from athletics but is still enrolled at the university, UA officials said. "He's suspended right now, and I'm not going to say any more than that," UA Coach Tom Arth sai d Monday at a spring practice.Dollard, a junior, will be subject to UA's Student Code of Conduct, which lists theft, possession of weapons, drug distribution, sexual misconduct, violent crime and chronic behavior issues as reasons for potential su spensions and dismissals. Akron police officers responded in the early morning hours of March 2 to the 600 block of Sherman Street for a call of suspicious people. A woman who called police said three people knocked on her door and one had a gun, accordi ng to an Akron police report. - Akron Beacon Journal

RB Teon Dollard has started to his Akron career rushing the ball with a bang running for a team-best 641 yards on 105 carries. His 202 yards against Kent State (Nov. 17) represented the highest single-game rushing total Dennis Kennedy post a 277-yard eff ort against Eastern Michigan on Oct. 18, 2008. Dollard became Akron's first 100-yard rusher since Van Edwards Jr. ran for 109 yards vs. Morgan State on Sept. 28, 2018, with a 39-yard scamper on a 3rd-and-1 play from the Zips' 39-yard line against Ohio (N ov. 10).He is ranked eighth in the NCAA in rushing (128.2), 26th in all-purpose yards (134.0), 27th in rushing yards per carry (6.10) and 43rd in rushing yards (641). Dollard became the fourth Zips since 2000 to rush for 200 or more yards in a gam e joining Dennis Kennedy (277 at Eastern Michigan - Oct. 18, 2008), Bobby Hendry (240 vs. Liberty - Oct. 12, 2002), Brandon Payne (207 vs. Connecticut - Oct. 21, 2000). DEC 7 MAC EAST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Teon Dollard, Akron, RB, Junior, Lake City, Fla.,...Dollard rushed for a game-high 185 yards on 26 carries to propel the Zips to a 31-3 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday, Dec. 5. Dollard found th e endzone twice, including a 50-yard TD scamper in the fourth quarter, as well as a nine-yard score in the third quarter. He has now rushed for a 150 or more yards three times this season and has a pair of touchdown runs of 50 or more yards. Dollard rush ed for 58 yards in the opening half before going for 127 in the second half. He now owns six touchdowns and 641 yards on the year. - MAC Football

Teon Dollard ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns, and Akron rolled to 31-3 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday in a battle of winless Mid-American Conference teams. It was also the first win for Akron's second-year coach Tom Arth, whose team finished 0-12 last season. Dollard carried the ball 26 times including a 9-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter. He brook loose on a 50-yard score to cap the scoring early in the fourth. It was his second 50-plus yard rushing touchdown this season. Michi ah Burton deflected Mason Lawler's punt from deep inside the end zone.Gavin Blunt then scooped up the ball around the 3 and scored, stretching the Zips' lead to 17-3 at halftime. Matt McDonald completed 14 of 26 passes for Bowling Green (0-5, 0-5) , six to Quintin Morris for 81 yards. Terion Stewart added 91 yards rushing. Nate Needham kicked a 23-yard field goal. Both teams are scheduled to conclude their six-game seasons next Saturday. The Zips (1-4, 1-4) travel to Buffalo while Bowling Green ho sts Miami (Ohio). Buffalo's Jaret Patterson is on another planet compared to the rest of the MAC, but Akron's Teon Dollard just might be the other All-MAC first-team running back. One of the junior-college transfers the Zips brought in during the last cycle, Dollard has r evived the Akron running game with 456 yards in four games - which is second only to Patterson among MAC rushers.
