Jayden Reed could have come back to Michigan State for one more season, but on Sunday the senior wide receiver made it official by announcing he was declaring for the NFL Draft. "Thank you Spartan Nation for the countless memories here at Michigan State, " Reed posted on social media. "I will forever bleed green!" The move by Reed was merely a formality, as he had already accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Reed just capped the 2022 season with 55 receptions for 636 yards and five touchdowns. In f our seasons, Reed had 203 catches for 2,866 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also had one career rushing touchdown and three punt returns for touchdowns. - Detroit News

Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed left Saturday's game after making a catch late in the first half and sliding into the bench. He reportedly suffered a cut on his back on the play but did not return after halftime. The senior had a team-high six catches for 76 yards before exiting the game. - Detroit News

In the back of his mind, Jayden Reed always figured he would be back for another season at Michigan State. But he didn't come to that decision before making a list of pros and cons, weighing whether to stay or go. NFL feedback didn't hurt, either. When h e learned from the league's College Advisory Committee that - at best - the third round of the 2022 draft was his likely ceiling, he knew the timing wasn't right. "I heard a lot of different stuff, and I felt like if I was to come back, I would have a mu ch better opportunity," Reed, a fifth-year senior receiver, said Wednesday at the Big Ten football media day event. "So I took advantage of that." His return wasn't solely dictated by potential personal advancement, though. While the Spartans had a spark ling 2021 season, going 11-2 and winning the Peach Bowl, Reed is seeking more. "I know I wanted to come back and compete for a Big Ten championship, a national title," he said. "I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of how good I can be. So I felt that I needed to return for one more year to prove myself."Specifically, he wants to show NFL talent evaluators he heeded their words of advice. They wanted to see Reed improve his route-running ability: getting in and out of routes - especia lly at the top - and changing their tempo. "That can really change the game for me," he said. Jayden Reed's expectations for Michigan State football's wide receiver room in 2022 that he's putting it above any other in the Big Ten including Ohio State. "We're going to be a lot better than people think we are... I think we're going to be the best r eceiving room in the Big Ten," Reed said at Big Ten media days Wednesday. Despite losing Jalen Nailor to the NFL, Reed, a third-year wide receiver for the Spartans after transferring from Western Michigan, said Keon Coleman, Tre Mosely and Germie Bernard will pick up the slack for Michigan State. "It just remains to be seen," Reed added.Ohio State may have something to say about that heading into the 2022 season. Despite losing both Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, who each became first-round NFL draft picks, wide receiver coach Brian Hartline's room returns its leading receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who led the team with 95 catches and 1,606 receiving yards in 2022. Reed was Michigan State's only 1,000-yard receiver last season, compared to Ohio S tate's two: Wilson and Smith-Njigba. After transferring to MSU from Western Michigan and sitting out the 2019 season under Dantonio, Reed put together a second impressive year and eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving. He opted to return for his senior season despite being named a first-team All-A merican by the AFCA as an all-purpose player. Reed will remain the primary target for Payton Thorne and should be on the watch list for major national awards. Despite being just 6 feet and 185 pounds, his ability to run crisp routes and produce in the re turn game will draw plenty of scouts' eyes all fall. - Lansing State Journal

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker said he showed his players video highlights of special teams units around the country making game-changing plays. His 20th-ranked Spartans delivered a local adaptation on Saturday night. With the offense sputtering, Jayden Reed returned a punt 62 yards for a tying touchdown with 3:47 left in regulation, and Chester Kimbrough's huge defensive play in overtime helped send the Spartans to a 23-20 win over Nebraska. Matt Coghlin's 21-yard field goal on MSU's overtime possessi on kept his team unbeaten and set off a celebration at Spartan Stadium. MSU has won nine of its last 11 night games and is out to its best start since the 2015 team opened 8-0.Kimbrough's interception came when he stepped in front of Samori Toure just as the ball was arriving on third down. Kimbrough's ran it back deep into Nebraska territory but he couldn't make it to the end zone. "I was just playing my coverage, trusting my coverage and trusting my technique," Kimbrough said. "We excelled it, man. I'm proud of my team." On Reed's game-turning play, Nebraska wanted a directional punt to the right, but Daniel Cerni sent it left. Jalen Nailor, also back as a return man, acted as if he would field the punt as coverage closed in on him, but it was Reed who caught the ball. With most of the coverage on the other side of the field, Reed was able to find plenty of running room. "That's something that we've been working on," Reed said. Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed was arraigned on Wednesday in 54B District Court on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated after being pulled over by MSU Police and Public Safety on July 18, 2020. According to court documents, Reed, 20, was arr aigned during a virtual hearing before Judge Andrea Larkin while Reed's attorney, David Meyers, entered a plea of not guilty. A personal bond was set at $500 and Reed is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Feb. 24. Reed, a 6-foot, 185-pound sophomore wh o transferred in May 2019 from Western Michigan and sat out the 2019 season, played in all seven games in 2020 and led the team with 33 receptions.
