South Alabama running back La'Damian Webb was at practice with his teammates on Saturday morning, less than a week after announcing he will return for a second season with the Jaguars in 2023. Webb has rushed for 1,014 yards and 14 touchdowns this season , despite missing one game and parts of two others with various injuries. He seriously considered jumping to pro ball, but ultimately announced on Tuesday that he will play a fifth season of college football next fall. "I had to just think about it," sai d Webb, who joined South Alabama as a junior-college transfer this January. "I know I wanted to do better this year and had some games where I was hurt, so I didn't get to play a whole, complete season. I thought it would be best if I come back and my fa mily thought it would be best for me to come back."Webb played in 2019 Jones (Miss.) College, then spent the 2020 season at Florida State. He went back to Jones in 2021 and was an NJCAA All-American before signing with South Alabama. With Webb set to return next season, the Jaguars should bring back close to 20 starters between the offense and defense. He said he's hoping the Jaguars can sustain the success of 2022, when they are 10-2 heading into the Dec. 21 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl vs. Wes tern Kentucky. "It feels great," Webb said. "We've got some work to do - a lot of work to do. You We'll focus on that next year, just continue to get better throughout the year." - Birmingham News

South Alabama running back La'Damian Webb announced Tuesday he will return for the 2023 season. Webb, a fourth-year junior, has rushed for 1,014 yards and a school-record 13 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He had been considering turning pro, but pos ted his decision on Instagram, writing "Let's run it back one more year with the gang." Webb, a former Mr. Football at Beauregard High School in Opelika, transferred to South Alabama in 2022 from Jones (Miss.) College. He was an NJCAA All-American in 202 1, when he led the nation in rushing yards per game. Webb signed with Mississippi State out of high school, but did not qualify academically. He played at Jones in 2019, then at Florida State in 2020 (rushing for 369 yards and three touchdowns) before en tering the transfer portal. - Birmingham News

Webb's rushi ng total was the sixth-highest single-game mark in South Alabama history, while his three touchdowns tied the single-game program record for rushing scores. The Opelika, Ala., product bookended the Jaguars scoring, opening with a 69-yard rush on the firs t offensive play of the game-which set up the first South Alabama score-and closing with 11-straight rushes for an 11-play, 52-yard scoring drive that ate up 7:16 in the fourth quarter. - Sun Belt Football

The Opelika, Ala., native rushed for a career-best and program-record 247 yards and four touchdowns as South Alabama secured a come-from-behind 38-31 victory over Georgia Southern. Webb tallied 179 yards in the second half, including carrying the ball on 14 of the Ja guars final 16 plays to run out the clock. La'Damian Webb ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns to propel South Alabama to a 31-3 romp over Arkansas State on Saturday. South Alabama (6-2, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) grabbed a 14-0 first-quarter lead on Webb's 3-yard touchdown run and Carter Bradley 's 49-yard scoring strike to Jalen Wayne. Webb had 1-yard scoring runs in the third and fourth quarters, finishing with 28 carries for the Lions. Bradley was 17-of-24 passing for 179 yards.
