  01/14/23 - RB Sean TylerrSr/2024, Minnesota, 5-08, 182 (DS#50 RB) + More +

Minnesota is set to feature three former Western Michigan football players on its roster this fall, following Friday's decision from running back Sean Tyler to flip his commitment from Oklahoma State to the P.J. Fleck-led Golden Gophers. Tyler committed to the Cowboys via social media on Dec. 12, then announced a change in plans a month later, stating he intends to finish his college football career at Minnesota.

"I would like to thank Oklahoma State University and the coaches for giving me an opportunity to further my career," Tyler wrote in a Twitter post. "After some deep thinking and talking with my family, I will not be attending OSU. With that being said I'll be finishing my collegiate career at the University of Minnesota. Forever grateful for the opportunity!" Tyler will join former teammates and fellow WMU starters Ryan Selig (linebacker) and Corey Crooms (receiver) on Minnesota's 2023 roster. - Kalamazoo Gazette

Sean Tyler scored on a 63-yard run, Keni-H Lovely returned an interception for a touchdown, and Western Michigan surprised Toledo 20-14 on Friday to wrap up the regular season. The Broncos (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) managed only 188 yards and eight first downs but got a big boost from their two explosive touchdowns. Palmer Domschke added two field goals for Western Michigan. With Toledo leading 7-0 midway through the second quarter, Lovely stepped in front of the intended receiver to intercept a Tucker Gleason pass and returned it 36 yards down the sideline for a touchdown.

Tyler scored on a long run in which he was barely touched, bursting through the line of scrimmage before outracing the secondary to the end zone. It was a key play in his bid for back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons as he surpassed the 104 yards he needed and finished at 131 for the game, 1,027 for the season. Toledo (7-5, 5-3) suffered its second consecutive loss but had already clinched the West Division title and will play Ohio for the MAC championship on Dec. 3 in Detroit. Toledo had punted 10 times and had only one drive beyond the Western Michigan 40-yard line until Tucker Gleason connected with Devin Maddox for a 57-yard pass play with a little less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter. The big play helped set up Gleason's 17-yard touchdown pass to DeMeer Blankumsee with 5:11 remaining. Gleason scored Toledo's first touchdown on a 2-yard run early in the second quarter. Gleason was only 13-of-38 passing for 200 yards with the touchdown and interception. Toledo had four turnovers. Western Michigan punted 14 times. - Western Michigan/AP College Football

  11/16/22 - RB Sean TylerrSr/2024, Minnesota, 5-08, 182 (DS#50 RB) + More +

Sean Tyler ran for a career-best 177 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 26 carries, Andre Carter had two sacks - including a safety in the closing minutes - and Palmer Domschke kicked a 25-yard field goal with 1:52 to play as Western Michigan rallied to beat Central Michigan 12-10 Wednesday night. Trailing 10-7 with less than 6 minutes to play, Western Michigan's Nick Mihalic pinned the Chippewas deep in their own territory when his 44-yard punt gave Central Michigan the ball at the 6. After a short gain on first down, Carter stopped Bert Emanuel Jr. for a 1-yard loss on second and then sacked Emanuel in the end zone to trim Western Michigan's deficit to 10-9 with 3:57 to play.

The Broncos received the ensuing kickoff and went 57 yards in eight plays - including a 36-yard pass from Treyson Bourguet to Corey Crooms to convert a third-and-11 - to take the lead with Domschke's field goal. Keni-H Lovely picked off a pass a few plays later to seal it for Western Michigan (4-7, 3-4 Mid-American Conference). Carter finished with three tackles for losses and has 11 this season. Treyson Bourguet was 7-of-19 passing for 102 yards and added 57 yards rushing on 11 carries for the Broncos. Tyler, in the driving snow, took a hand off up the middle and raced 53 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring midway through the first quarter. On the next play from scrimmage, Emanuel took a shotgun snap, ran to his right, cut back to the middle of the field and raced 60 yards to make it 7-all just 19 seconds later. - Western Michigan/AP College Football

Sean Tyler ran for 110 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, Palmer Domschke kicked three field goals and Western Michigan beat Miami (Ohio) 16-10 Saturday night. Domschke, who also missed kicks of 39 yards in the first quarter and 51 in the fourth, made a 52-yard field goal with 3:50 left in the second quarter and a 46-yarder as time in the first half expired to give Western Michigan (3-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) the lead for good at 6-3. Brett Gabbert completed 21 of 38 passes for 222 yards and his 9-yard touchdown run capped the scoring early in the fourth for the Redhawks.   Sean Tyler ran 75 yards for the game-winning touchdown midway through the fourth quarter and Western Michigan beat Ball State 37-30 on Saturday. Western Michigan (1-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) ended a two-game skid against Ball State (0-2, 0-1) and collected its first victory at Schuemann Stadium since its undefeated 2016 season, a 52-20 win. It took one play for the Broncos to cap the scoring with 7:33 remaining. Ball State then drove to the Western Michigan 38, but the drive stalled on an incomplete pass on fourth-and-8.

The Broncos converted on fourth-and-7 to help run out the clock. Jack Salopek threw his first career touchdown pass when he hit Crooms in the end zone for a 12-yard score and the Broncos led 29-23 on the after the first play of the fourth quarter. Ball State answered on the ensuing series when John Paddock lofted a pass to Amir Abdur-Rahman, who made a one-handed, over-the shoulder catch then ran untouched about 15 yards into the end zone for a 39-yard TD. - Western Michigan/AP College Football
