One of Penn State's best players will be returning for the 2023 season. Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu announced his decision to return to the Nittany Lions instead of declaring for the NFL Draft Monday evening. Fashanu was rising up draft projections, with some having him as a top-10 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Instead, the 19-year-old offensive tackle will return for another season at Penn State where he will anchor the offensive line at left tackle. His return will be even more important for the Nittany Lions because of who will be behind him. Drew Allar is set to start at quarterback next season if all goes well and will no longer have to worry about his blindside with Fashanu protecting it. The star left tackle is the second Nittany Lion to announce his return after fellow offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad announced earlier in November that he would also be coming back. - Centre Times

The spotlight has been on Penn State's offensive line since James Franklin arrived before the 2014 season. It remains there because the unit has been a problem area for long stretches. The play of the offensive line was a major issue last season, and Penn State will not go very far in the Big Ten this year if the group doesn't show marked improvement. Phil Trautwein, in his third season with the Nittany Lions, is the man charged with getting more (much more) out of the offensive line, and, Wednesday night, he offered thoughts on the line's progress early in camp.

Olu Fashanu is Penn State's new left tackle, and Trautwein believes he is the right man for the job. Fashanu takes over for Rasheed Walker at left tackle, and Fashanu's 2021 audition for the job, in the Outback Bowl loss to Arkansas, was solid. "I think those 15 practices were really key in the bowl game (prep) and (Fashanu) getting that (left tackle) spot since Rasheed wasn't in and him just kinda taking over and it built confidence," Trautwein said. "He's doing a heck of a job. Him and Caedan (Wallace) are probably two of the best tackles that I've coached." - Tribune Review

Penn State right tackle Caedan Wallace and center Juice Scruggs are returning starters, with Scruggs moving over from right guard. The coaching staff has also been pleased with new left tackle Olu Fashanu, Rasheed Walker's replacement. The Lions must find two starting guards and that will be a priority in August. - Tribune Review
