2023 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION: Nathan Carter,...Redshirt sophomore running back Nathan Carter ranked seventh in the Big Ten rushing in the regular season, averaging 66.5 yards per game (798 total). He also ranked third in the conference in carries (185) and 15th in all-purpose yards (901; 75.1 ypg), and led the team with four rushing touchdowns. The UConn transfer rushed for 100 yards in three games, including a season-high 113 yards on 18 carries in his debut against Central Michigan in Week 1.

He had 111 yards on 19 carries vs. Richmond in Week 2 and ran for 108 yards on a season-high 20 carries at Iowa in Week 5. Carter became the first Spartan since Jehuu Caulcrick in 2007 to score three touchdowns in a single quarter after running for three scores (2 yards, 44 yards, 6 yards) in the third quarter of the 45-14 win over Richmond in Week 2. Carter has rushed for 1,781 yards on 375 carries in his 28-game collegiate career (16 at UConn from 2021-22; 12 at MSU in 2023), including seven rushing touchdowns. - Michigan State Football

That was fun to watch. It was entertaining. For a time Saturday, UConn football seemed to have an upset in the making. Trending on Twitter, the Huskies were. For a time. That time began to run out when Nate Carter, running wild in the Utah State secondary and bidding to build on a two-touchdown lead, was stripped of the ball and lost it. The game turned dramatically on that play, less than a minute into the second quarter, which an experienced onlooker could have anticipated. Importantly, it turned back later. So the Huskies offered a spark, if they did not get a win in Jim Mora's first game as coach, a win that would have lit a fire in the hearts of a long-suffering bunch of fans in Connecticut. Those hearts, instead, should ache over the loss of quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson and receiver Keelan Marion, likely for the season, with injuries sustained even as the Huskies were building their startling first-quarter lead.

But neither hearts nor spirits should be broken by this 31-20 loss on the road to a Utah State team that finished 2021 in the Top 25. Better days do seem to be coming, if maybe not tomorrow. Carter gained 147 yards, surpassing his career high, in the first half and he finished with 20 carries for 190 yards. The Huskies, who averaged 265 total yards per game last year, had 234 by halftime Saturday. The Huskies weren't embarrassed here, they moved the ball, looked like they belonged - especially before players started getting hurt. "We're disappointed," Mora said, "but we're not discouraged. I saw things today in the group that leads to encouragement. Disappointed. Bitter defeat. Nobody wants to lose. But I'm encouraged by the way they competed 'til the end." - Hartford Courant

2022 PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD CANDIDATE: Nathan Carter (So.), UCONN,... 2021As a freshman in 2021, running back Nathan (Nate) Carter (5-9 tall, but no weight listed in school bio, so he must be fast. Maybe a school better known for basketball focuses on height) was a mainstay in the backfield for the Huskies, playing in all 12 games... On 125 carries he totaled 578 rushing yards and two touchdowns while also making 19 receptions for 127 yards... At Massachusetts he carried 20 times for 136 yards, with one reception for three yards (10/9)... Carried the ball 24 times for 123 yards and one reception for five yards against Vanderbilt (10/2)... At UCF he carried the ball 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown while hauling in two receptions for 47 yards (11/20); News flash, Carter is listed at 196 pounds, ten more than when he enrolled in 2020. - UConn Football
