TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 44. Zay Flowers, rJr, WR, Boston College, 5-10, 177, 2,...Flowers led Boston College with four catches for 79 yards but it was far from enough again in a 27-10 loss to the Virginia Hokies. Previous week, No. 43: Flowers did his part in Boston College's season opener with career high ten catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. But he couldn't overcome his team's six fumbles and two interceptions as Rutgers gutted out a come-from-behind, 22-21, upset victory. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 98. Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College, Senior. Notable 2021 stats: 746 yards, 5 TDs. Last year's ranking: 83. Flowers made headlines in the offseason when he turned down lucrative NIL offers from intermediaries to enter the NCAA transfer portal, staying at Boston College for his senior season. With a healthy Phil Jurkovec back at quarterback and a new offensive coordinator, the belief is the Eagles will utilize Flowers more across the board and put him in position to make plays from multiple spots. - ESPN.com

Denis Grosel threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Zay Flowers in overtime, and Brandon Sebastian's interception sealed the victory on Saturday as Boston College recovered after blowing two fourth-quarter leads to beat Missouri 41-34. BC coach Jeff Hafley said he couldn't see Sebastian come down with the ball to end the game. But he figured it out when the fans came streaming onto the field to celebrate the first-ever meeting between the schools, and the Eagles' first 4-0 start since Matt Ryan led them to eight straight wins to start the 2007 season. "The next thing I know I had like 5,000 people on my back," Hafley said. "It was a blur." Travis Levy scored from 5-yards out to give BC a 34-31 lead with 25 seconds to play in the fourth, bouncing off one defender at the 1 and scampering in. But Connor Bazelak led the Tigers (2-2) to the Eagles' 39 and Harrison Mevis barely cleared the crossbar with a 56-yard field goal as time expired in regulation.

BC had the ball first in overtime and advanced to the 9 on a third-down pass to Levy. After Levy was stopped for a loss of 1, Grosel found Flowers open on the left side of the end zone. "He's like a dog with a frisbee," said Grosel, a walk-on who took over as starter when Notre Dame transfer Phil Jurkovec injured his wrist in Week 2. "I throw it up there and he goes up and gets it." Bazelak went for the score on the Tigers' first play, but Sebastian leaped in front of the receiver at the goal line and came down with the ball to end it. "That was the best play I've ever had playing football," said Sebastian, who confessed that he was in the wrong coverage. "I saw the man release and I saw the quarterback and I was thinking, ‘He's going to throw it deep.' I just tried to make a play." Pat Garwo ran for 175 yards and two touchdowns, including a 67-yard score in the first quarter. Grosel threw for 175 yards and two scores; he also ran nine times for 35 yards to help BC convert on 11 of 17 third-down attempts and both times it went for it on fourth. - Boston College/AP College Football

Before Antonio Brown's erratic behavior made him a sideshow for social media and catnip for clickbait, his skillset and work ethic made him a case study in how the wide receiver position could be played. Brown was an undersized, sixth-round pick who turned into arguably the game's best all-around receiver. It didn't matter where he lined up, it didn't matter what defense he saw. He was a 100-catch season waiting to happen. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Boston College receiver Zay Flowers watched him closely. Almost exclusively. When Flowers named the receivers he wanted to model himself after, the only one was Brown. "That's basically it," he said. "Nobody else." One of the benefits of the coaching staff assembled by Eagles' first-year coach Jeff Hafley is its wealth of NFL experience. Their relationships make it easy to play six degrees of separation.

Early on, Flowers mentioned to offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti how much he studied Brown. Cignetti, who had NFL runs with the Rams, Giants, and Packers, happened to mention it to former Giants quarterback Geno Smith. Smith happened to be spending the quarantine working out with Brown. Those workouts happened to be in Miami - a relatively short drive for Flowers. Before Flowers knew it, he was running routes with the receiver he'd been dissecting for years. "It's just me Gino and AB working out on a golf course," Flowers said. - Boston Globe
