Boise State's Jonah Dalmas, Scott Matlock, John Ojukwu and JL Skinner were selected to the 2022 Preseason All-Mountain West Football Team, the conference announced Thursday. A 2021 Lou Groza Award Semifinalist, Dalmas made a school-record 26 field goals last season, the second-most in MW history, and he was the first Bronco placekicker to be named to the All-MW First Team since 2015. Skinner earned second-team all-conference honors in 2021. Boise State has been selected to finish atop the Mountain Division, while Fresno State has been chosen to win the West Division title, as announced today by the Mountain West at its annual media days, being held at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. Boise State, wh ich has been predicted to win the Mountain Division the last 10 seasons, garnered 14 first-place votes and 151 total points, while Fresno State has been selected to win the West Division for the first time since 2019. The Bulldogs earned 20-first place v otes and 160 total points. The 20 first-place votes are the most by Fresno State since joining the MW and most by a West Division team since 2017 (San Diego State; 28).Air Force was picked to finish second in the Mountain Division, earning 10 firs t-place votes and 136 points. The Falcons haven't received first-place votes since 2016, while the 10 are the most for the Falcons since the league's inception in 1999. Defending MW champions, Utah State (3) and Colorado State also received first-place v otes in the Mountain Division. In the West Division, San Diego State earned the eight remaining first-place votes, finishing just 12 points behind the Bulldogs at 148 points. This marks the 10th season of divisional play for the Conference, which moved t o the two, six-team divisional format in 2013 following the additions of San Jose State and Utah State. - Mountain West Football

Boise State took home the award for Best Institutional NIL Program Monday evening, at the Inaugural NIL Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame. The NIL Awards were presented on the first night of the NIL Summit, which continues Tuesday and Wednesday . The Boise State football team will open the season on ESPN for the second year in a row. The Broncos open the 2022 season Sept. 3 at Oregon State in a game that will kick off at 8:30 p.m. Mountain time and air on ESPN. Boise State's season opener last ye ar at UCF was also broadcast on the channel. Boise State's road games at New Mexico (7 p.m., Sept. 9), UTEP (7 p.m. MT, Sept. 23), Air Force (5 p.m., Oct. 22), Nevada (8:30 p.m. MT, Nov. 12) and Wyoming (5 p.m., Nov. 19) will air on CBS Sports Network th is year.The Broncos' home games against University of Tennessee at Martin (2 p.m., Sept. 17) and San Diego State (6 p.m., Sept. 30) will air on Fox Sports 1. They also host defending Mountain West champion Utah State Nov. 25 in the regular-season finale, which will kick off at 10 a.m. and air on CBS. Boise State safety JL Skinner spent time in the weight room in the offseason, adding a little more muscle to his 6-foot-4, 218-pound frame, and he's focused on improving his coverage skills. But he does not think either of those things is what will prope l him to a breakout season. Skinner said Tuesday that his confidence is at an all-time high, and that took a lot of work after it was at an all-time low at the end of 2020. "As a DB, if you don't have confidence, it's going to be really hard to succeed," Skinner told reporters on Tuesday. "After this past season, I did a lot of reflecting on myself, and I started to build that confidence within myself again. I started to realize I'm able to play this position at a high level, and I just have to keep wor king."Boise State ended last year's COVID-shortened season with a loss to San Jose State in the Mountain West championship game. The players voted not to play in a bowl game, which snapped the team's streak of 18 straight bowl appearances. The way it all ended just didn't sit right with Skinner. So while most of his teammates went home for Christmas break, he stayed on campus and got to work. The native of San Diego said he took two days off before getting back in the gym. He also said he spent t he better part of a month and a half alone, training and reflecting on what could have been. "I felt disappointed in last year because I know what type of player I can be," he said. "I realized all the things I could have done last year that I didn't do, possibly because of my confidence. I just really started reflecting on myself and looked at everything I could have done differently." - Idaho Statesman
