Jaylen Harris, Ohio State, Player News
|
Wide receivers Jaylen Harris and Elijah Gardiner are no longer members of the Ohio State football program. Both players were recently removed from the Buckeyes' online roster. A team spokesperson said both players graduated and opted to move on. Letterme n Row reported earlier this month that neither were still playing football. Last spring, offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Harris "had his best offseason" and complimented his work ethic and maturity. Harris, though, played sparingly in 2020 and di d not have a reception. The Buckeyes' receiving corps saw an influx of young talent in the 2020 and 2021 classes. Gardiner's only career reception came in 2019. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

For a few Ohio State football seniors, this spring represents the final chance for a breakthrough. One of those seniors earned early praise from offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. Wide receiver Jaylen Harris played only 89 snaps in 2019, but that repres ented a career high. The Cleveland Heights grad caught one pass - bringing his career receptions total to five - in addition to his extensive special teams work. With sophomore Garrett Wilson potentially sliding inside to slot receiver - and incoming fre shman Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Mookie Cooper slated for roles there as well - the opportunity for a rotation spot on the outside could open up."Jaylen Harris has had his best offseason," Wilson said. "Really matured, been steady, worked hard, been t he frontline, been a leader that group. Kind of nice to see him kick up, and there's some young guys behind him." Harris and fellow senior Elijah Gardiner both worked with the first team in Monday's practice. Such honors are occasionally bestowed on seni ors early in practice, and presumptive starter Chris Olave was limited by injury. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
