  11/19/22 - RB Shaun ShiversrSr/2023, Indiana, 5-05, 187 (DS#46 RB) + More +

Shaun Shivers ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns, including a 1-yarder in double overtime, to lift Indiana to a 39-31 come-from-behind victory over Michigan State on Saturday. Indiana's James Head Jr. blocked Ben Patton's 28-yard field goal in overtime and Michigan State's Michael Fletcher blocked Charles Campbell's 37-yard kick to send the game to double overtime. After Dexter Williams threw a 24-yard pass to AJ Barner to start the second overtime, Shivers ran for the game-winner. Williams threw a two-point conversion pass to Barner to give the Hoosiers an eight-point cushion. Michigan State failed to score as it could only drive to the 13-yard line. Michigan State (5-6, 3-5) appeared to be running away with the game after building a 17-point halftime advantage, but the Hoosiers rallied in the second half.

The Hoosiers (4-7, 2-6) closed within 24-14 at the start of the second half when Shivers broke free for a 79-yard touchdown run. The Spartans responded with Elijah Collins scoring his second touchdown of the game on a 31-yard burst through the line. Indiana's Jaylin Lucas, who had 168 kickoff return yards, returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown. Following an interception of a pass by Payton Thorne, the Hoosiers' Campbell made a 40-yard field goal to cut it to 31-24. Josh Henderson tied the game at 31 with 12:59 left on a 1-yard run. Michigan State had a chance to win the game in regulation but Patton missed a 22-yard field goal as time expired. - Indiana/AP College Football

Shaun Shivers, nicknamed "the worm", and Josh Henderson are two transfers from Power 5 schools expected to contribute immediately in the run game. At 5-foot-7 and 190 pounds, Shivers is a versatile back with 1,020 career rushing yards on 5.1 yards per carry in three seasons at Auburn. Shivers also can catch the ball out of the backfield, with 38 catches for 211 yards and one TD in his career. - Herald Bulletin

At 6-foot-7, 290 pounds, Lang has always had the prototypical NFL body. He's got the skills, too, but needs more production. He said this spring his main objective is to produce more impact plays. He has 9.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in his career. If he has a highly productive senior year, he could be high on the NFL radar. - AP College Football

The Hoosiers' leading returning rusher among running backs is walk-on Charlie Spegal, who finished with 62 yards on 19 carries last season. They addressed the position in both the transfer portal and high school recruiting and liked what they saw in the spring. The 5-7, 190-pound Shivers left Auburn because he found himself pigeon-holed in a third-down role, and wanted to prove that he can be an every-down back. In the spring, he showed toughness in between the tackles and breakaway speed. "He continues to just show who he is," Allen said. - Indianapolis Star/News

  12/13/21 - RB Shaun ShiversrSr/2023, Indiana, 5-05, 187 (DS#46 RB) + More +

Shaun Shivers will finish out his college career in the Big Ten. The former Auburn running back, who entered the transfer portal two days after the regular-season finale, announced Saturday that he has committed to Indiana. Shivers graduated from Auburn on Friday and will use his free year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic with the Hoosiers next season. The 5-foot-7, 189-pounder out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., spent four seasons as a complementary piece in Auburn's backfield. He finished his Auburn career with 1,020 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 201 carries, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt over the last four seasons, while also catching 38 passes for another 211 yards and a touchdown. - Birmingham News

Yes, Shivers' size is that of a smaller running back, but the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has always played bigger than his stature -- as though he is always the biggest, most physical man on the field. "I just think this is the best offense for me, because I have a chance to show what I can really do - just get downhill," Shivers said. "That's something I came from before, when I was in high school. It's just something we did, running downhill. That's just what I'm used to." Shivers hasn't been afraid to show that this spring, as evidenced by a since-deleted video that Auburn's official team account posted to Twitter on Saturday afternoon. It showed Shivers taking a handoff in practice from Bo Nix and taking off down the left sideline, where defensive back Malcolm Askew tried to square up and bring him down.

Shivers, like he did to McKinney in the 2019 Iron Bowl, trucked Askew and dropped him to the turf before being wrapped up by two defenders a few yards downfield. "That position - especially at tailback - that's one you've got to be physical," Harsin said. "You've got to be a different dude. You're going to get hit every play, you've got to be able to protect the passer, you've got to take care of the ball." Shivers, who has rushed for 933 yards and seven touchdowns in his first three seasons, has brought that approach consistently to practice this spring, leading by example while impressing Harsin and the new staff with his demeanor. As Harsin put it Saturday, Shivers has been "purposeful" in everything he has done this spring - rarely, if ever, taking a play off while also being focused in absorbing the new playbook. - Birmingham News

  10/28/20 - RB Shaun ShiversrSr/2023, Indiana, 5-05, 187 (DS#46 RB) + More +

After three weeks where Gus Malzahn was "hopeful" Shaun Shivers would be ready to play, Shivers made his return to the backfield in Auburn's 35-28 win over Ole Miss. Although freshman running back Tank Bigsby had had outstanding performances in Auburn's last three games, Shivers was given the start over him. That decision was about more than skill. Shivers has seniority, experience and, most importantly, leadership ability. He's one of the team captains, and he changes the dynamic on the field just by being out there. That all adds to the fact that he's an effective runner, as he showed in the season-opener against Kentucky where he averaged 4.8 yards a carry.

"Shaun Shivers is one of our team leaders," Malzahn said Tuesday before Shivers's return. "You talk about a guy that had a phenomenal fall camp and really had a really good first half against Kentucky and then got hurt. That'll definitely help when he gets back. He's in a great spot." Shivers wasn't quite back to 100 percent against Ole Miss, but that didn't stop him from running all over the Ole Miss defenders. Shivers finished with 60 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown. Basically every time he carried the ball, he had a significant gain, and he finished the game averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He bulldozed through defenders, found gaps and broke tackles. "I thought he really bounced a couple of zones out," Malzahn said Sunday. "He cut it back and he tried to finish runs, too. He broke tackles, too." - Birmingham News

  10/02/20 - RB Shaun ShiversrSr/2023, Indiana, 5-05, 187 (DS#46 RB) + More +

In Saturday's season opener, the Auburn Tigers had a so-so game on the ground against Kentucky. Now, the challenge for the Tigers is to jump start their rushing attack against one of the SEC's top defenses. Auburn running backs Shaun Shivers, D.J. Williams and Tank Bisby had 20 carries for 55 yards - an average of 2.8 yards per carry - in the Tigers' season-opening victory over Kentucky. While Bo Nix's contributions of five carries for 34 yards helped move the run game along, the other backfield members know they'll have to do more against a Bulldogs' defense that held Arkansas to 2.8 yards per carry last week.

"I feel the first time it was just something to get warmed up to see what we needed to work on. We see the things we need to work on and we're just going to improve every week," said Shivers, who led the way with six carries for 29 yards. "Our running game is going to be more productive, it was just the first game and week one. We see the things we need to work on and we're going to get better every week. I feel like the running game is going to be improved." Shivers' main critique of the running backs in Week 1 was they needed to be more patient, but he added the lack of a spring and limited summer meant the first game would likely be not as sound as they wanted. Still, the group did enough to help Auburn maintain balance in its play-calling - the team had 27 pass attempts and 30 runs - and ultimately reach 1-0. - Opelika-Auburn News
