The Arizona Wildcats have added another member to an already-crowded running back room, picking up a commitment from Florida State graduate transfer D.J. Williams. Williams announced his commitment via his Twitter page Tuesday afternoon. This will be the third stop for the 5-foot-10, 205-pound back out of Lake Placid, Florida. Williams was originally a four-star recruit and the No. 16 running back in the 2019 class.

He committed to Auburn and spent two seasons with the Tigers, rushing for 599 yards on 122 carries and scoring five touchdowns in 19 games. He also had 72 receiving yards on 12 catches. Williams ran for a career-high 130 yards against No. 2 LSU during the 2019 season. Williams transferred to FSU for the 2021 season, but was used sparingly. He appeared in six games, carrying the ball 10 times for 47 yards and a touchdown. - Arizona Star News

Florida State running back D.J. Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday, On3 has learned. Williams, a Class of 2019 four-star recruit and former Auburn transfer, transferred to FSU last year. The Lake Placid, Fla. native ran for 47 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for the Seminoles last season. He ran for 599 yards and five touchdowns in two seasons at Auburn, including 400 yards and two scores as a freshman in 2019. Williams will be a graduate transfer. He's set to graduate after the summer term. - On3.com

Another Auburn defender appears to be considering other options. According to AL.com's Matt Zenitz, Auburn safety Chris Thompson Jr. has entered the transfer portal. The rising sophomore becomes the fourth Tigers player and third defender to enter the portal since last Friday. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Thompson signed with Auburn as a four-star in the class of 2020. He made his first appearance in the Tigers' second contest of 2020 against Georgia and ultimately appeared in six games. He recorded eight tackles, three of which came in the Vrbo Citrus Bowl against Northwestern. Thompson was seen as a starting safety candidate this spring after Jamien Sherwood departed for the NFL. He ultimately spent most of the spring with the second-team while former nickelback Ladarius Tennison manned the other safety position opposite rising senior safety Smoke Monday. - Opelika-Auburn News

While freshman running back Tank Bigsby has dazzled with two 100-yard games in a row, sophomore D.J. Williams has quietly been adding another element to the running game. In Auburn's loss to South Carolina, Williams had 17 rushing yards on four carries while also adding 26 receiving yards on two catches. It's the third game Williams has helped in both the receiving and the ground game, and he's done it while injured. Coming into the season, Williams was the second-most experienced running back on the Auburn depth chart, and he was second, behind Shaun Shivers, to hit the field in the season opener against Kentucky. However, both Williams and Shivers were injured before the Georgia game. While Shivers sat out, Williams still hit the field, but on a limited basis. Meanwhile, Bigsby had to take over the No. 1 running back's responsibilities, a role he stepped into smoothly. But even with the injuries, Williams has been able to help the team.

In his first game he played while injured, Williams wasn't able to do much. He made one catch for a loss of four yards. But after just a week to recover, Williams burst back onto the scene. Against Arkansas, Williams picked up 71 yards on eight carries, averaging 8.9 yards per carry, and made one catch for a gain of one yard. Williams took one of his carries for 41 yards, helping set up an Auburn field goal. Although Williams' production dropped against South Carolina, his runs showed off his ability to break tackles and forge through traffic. It was a positive sign that he's getting back to full strength. - Birmingham News
