  2019 AFCA FCS COACHES' FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: PK Grayson Atkins, Jr., Furman,...A junior, he converted 13-of-15 field goal attempts and 48-of-50 PATs in 2019. He made all six field goal attempts under 40 yards and went 7-for-9 from 40+ yards, with his last try, a career long 59-yard effort, coming in FCS first round playoff action against Austin Peay. The Inman, S.C., native entered the season riding a streak of 11 consecutive made field goals and proceeded to extend it to a Furman and Southern Conference record 18 straight - his final make coming from a school record tying 55 yards in a 28-7 win over Western Carolina on Oct. 26.

Atkins' streak of 18 straight made field goals averaged 39.2 yards in distance and featured perfect 10-for-10 work from 40+ yards, including 5-for-5 from 50+ yards. A consensus first team All-SoCon selection for a second straight year, he has converted 33-of-40 field goals in three seasons at Furman and accounted for 241 points, ranking fifth all-time in kick scoring. His career 82.5 field goal percentage is the best in program history. Atkins also landed second team All-SoCon honors as punter in 2019 after averaging 43.5 yards per punt and recorded 39 touchbacks on 77 kickoffs. - Furman Football

  OCT 28 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grayson Atkins, Furman, Jr., K, Inman, S.C.,...Furman kicker Grayson Atkins earned his third weekly award of the season and the sixth of his career for his performance in the Paladins' 28-7 win over Western Carolina in rainy conditions. The junior from Inman, South Carolina, punted twice on the day, placing both inside the WCU 20-yard line, and kicked off five times, averaging 64.6 yards per kicked and recording four touchbacks to run his season total to 30 on 46 kickoffs. Atkins scored eight points on the afternoon, converting both point-after attempts and going 2-for-3 on field-goal tries.

He connected from 55 yards in the first quarter to match the school record for distance and extend his own school mark to 18 consecutive field-goal makes before a bad snap on a 33-yard attempt brought that streak to a halt. Atkins rebounded with a 40-yard make on the final play of the first half to send the Paladins into the break with a 13-7 lead.   Devin Wynn scored on a 1-yard run three seconds into the fourth quarter and Grayson Atkins set a Southern Conference record with his 15th straight field goal as Furman held off East Tennessee State 17-10 on Saturday. The Paladins (3-2, 2-0), ranked 15th in the FCS coaches' poll, used a nine-play, 80-yard drive to take a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Corey Watkins ran 30 yards on first down and Darren Grainger capped the drive with a 15-yard TD toss to Ryan DeLuca. Grayson pushed Furman's lead to 10-0 with his record-setting 28-yard field goal at 13:18 of the second quarter.

The Buccaneers (2-3, 0-2) pulled within 10-7 by halftime when Artevius Smith forced a Watkins fumble that was recovered by ETSU's Jason Maduafokwa at the Furman 33-yard line. Quay Holmes' 26-yard run set up a 6-yard scoring run by Cameron Lewis. East Tennessee State tied the game at 10 on Tyler Keltner's 34-yard field goal with 5:47 left in the third quarter. Grainger jump-started the game-winning drive with a 40-yard pass to DeLuca, giving the Paladins a first down at the Buccaneers 11.   SEPT 23/WEEK 4 SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grayson Atkins, Jr., K, Inman, S.C.,...Furman do-everything kicker Grayson Atkins earned his second nod of the season after an all-around impressive day in a 45-10 conference win over Mercer on Saturday. Atkins kicked a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to extend his school record for consecutive makes to 14 and went 6-for-6 on PATs on the afternoon to personally account for nine points.

The junior from Inman, South Carolina, also punted twice for an average of 51.0 yards, highlighted by a 69-yard boot, the second-longest of his career, that pinned the Bears at their own 6-yard line. Atkins also kicked off seven times for 63.6 yards per attempt, notching four touchbacks as he neutralized a Mercer return unit that had averaged 36 yards per return entering the contest but managed just 17.3 on the day.   SEPT 2/WEEK 1 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grayson Atkins, Furman, Jr., K, Inman, S.C.,..Furman All-American kicker Grayson Atkins excelled in all three aspects of the kicking game in the 17th-ranked Paladins' 46-13 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday. The junior from Inman, South Carolina, averaged 45.0 yards on four punts, booting a pair over 50 yards and putting two inside the Bucs' 10-yard line.

Atkins also kicked off eight times for a career-best 65.6 yards per kick, notching six touchbacks, and put eight points on the scoreboard, going 5-for-5 on extra-point tries and nailing a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter to extend his current streak to 12 straight conversions, tying the school record. Seven of those 12 have come from 39 yards or more and four have been from 50-plus.
