OCT 28 NEC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TRE JONES, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT, LB, Jr., 6-3, 255 lbs., Providence, RI/St. Raphael Academy,...WEEK 9 Stats: 7 total tackles, 2.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks, Forced Fumble, PBU...Jones was a driving force behind a defensive effort that limited LIU to 84 total yards, including 0.3 yard per rush. Tying for team-high honors, the linebacker logged seven tackles in the 28-0 shutout victory. He made 2.0 tackles-for-loss highlighted by 1.5 sacks.

Jones, who was also credited with a forced fumble and one pass break-up, started strong by teaming up with Justin Kennedy to sack the quarterback for a 9-yard loss that ended LIU's opening possession. Jones was wreaking havoc again early in the second quarter. With LIU facing a 1st-and-10 from the CCSU 42-yard line in a scoreless game, the 6-foot-3 linebacker made a strip sack at the LIU 48 and the ensuing recovery set up the Blue Devils' offense at the LIU 35. Jones, who did not allow the opponent to record a first down on any of his seven tackles, made four stops that limited the Sharks to three yards or less on run plays. - NEC Football

SEPT 23/WEEK 4 NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TRE JONES, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT, LB, Jr., 6-3, 255 lbs., Providence, RI/St. Raphael Academy,...WEEK 4 Stats: 5 total tackles, 1.0 TFL, late-game INT,...Jones was at the forefront of a defensive effort that held Eastern Michigan in check, limiting the Eagles to fewer yards than previous opponents Illinois and Kentucky. The senior linebacker totaled five tackles, including 1.0 hit for a loss, and came away with a late-game interception that put CCSU on the brink of victory. Jones' first tackle dropped the ball carrier for a two-yard loss on a first down play in the first quarter. After EMU crossed midfield early in the third quarter, Jones made a key stop to bring up a 3rd-and-10 play. The outside linebacker dropped back in pass defense and snagged his first career interception with the Blue Devils protecting a 29-28 lead late in the fourth quarter. The pick came at the CCSU 44-yard line with 1:15 remaining. - Northeast Conference Football
