  12/24/20 - WR *Brennan EaglesJr/2021, Texas, 6-4, 225 (DS#43 WR) + More +

Texas' mass exodus continued Tuesday when junior receiver Brennan Eagles announced he would skip the upcoming bowl game and enter the NFL draft. For three seasons, Eagles has been a good secondary target but never the Longhorns' most consistent threat. He caught 61 passes in three seasons for 1,026 yards and scored 11 touchdowns, most of them coming on go routes when he ran straight ahead. Five team captains have opted out of the Alamo Bowl to focus on the NFL draft, including junior left tackle Samuel Cosmi and junior defensive end Joseph Ossai. Freshman quarterback Ja'Quinden Jackson has also transferred to Utah. Also, several players have announced they intend on coming back, including some seniors who will take advantage of the NCAA's COVID-19 waiver. Junior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was the latest to announce he was staying on Tuesday. - Austin American Statesman

Graduate transfer Tarik Black is officially the starter over junior Brennan Eagles after a disappointing camp for Eagles, the team's leading returning receiver. Throughout the offseason, the expectation was that Eagles would take a big leap this season, but that's now in question as he starts the season as a backup. Black has been impressive in his own right, however. - Burnt Orange Nation

  06/04/20 - WR *Brennan EaglesJr/2021, Texas, 6-4, 225 (DS#43 WR) + More +

Texas receiver Brennan Eagles has announced that he may take a stand by sitting. Eagles took to social media on Wednesday night to ask his fellow student-athletes if sports should currently be anyone's focus. He added that he doesn't see himself playing football anytime soon. On both his Twitter and Instagram accounts, Eagles wrote that "Athletics brings people together all over but at the end of the day I'm not going to play another snap knowing what's going on in our society due to color and the system being broken...i just can't." Eagles' comments were made nine days after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, kept his knee on the neck of Floyd, a black 46-year-old, for nearly eight minutes during an arrest that was videotaped. Floyd repeatedly said that he could not breathe, but those pleas were ignored and he later died. Chauvin has since been fired and charged with second-degree murder. - Austin American Statesman
