Chad Ryland will take over kicking duties for the Terps, filling the position previously held by Joseph Petrino for four seasons. Ryland, a four-year starter at Eastern Michigan, transferred to Maryland after setting the Eagles' single-season record for points (104) in 2021. He kicked a career-long 55-yard field goal late in the season and soon after made the jump to a Power Five program, using an extra season of eligibility granted to athletes because of the coronavirus pandemic. "Deep down, every kid' s dream is to go as big as possible and make kicks on the biggest stage, which I'm obviously going to have a chance to do this year walking into Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin," Ryland said. A season of records for the Lebanon, Pa. native, Ryland kicked his way into the No. 1 overall spot on the EMU all-time s coring list in 2021. He currently has 301 points and passed former Eagle Andrew Wellock (2003-07) for the top spot in program history against Central Michigan, Nov. 26. Already the program's all-time record holder in PAT attempts (142), PAT makes (138), and longest field goal (t-1; 55 yards) – all set this season, Ryland also notched a program record when he hit five field goals, the most ever in a single game for the program, against Western Michigan, Nov. 16. NOV 15 MAC WEST DIVISION CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Chad Ryland, Eastern Michigan, Kicker, Junior, Lebanon, Pa. (Cedar Crest),...Ryland continues to prove he is one of the best assets in the conference. Ryland was 2-for-2 on FG attempts agains t Ohio, Nov. 9, an effort which included his program-record-tying 55-yarder. After starting the season just 3-for-6, the Lebanon, Pa. native has hit his stride, knocking in his last eight attempts and 10 of his last 11 overall. Ryland is now 11-for-14 on the season. He is 11th in the MAC in terms of points responsible for, with 76 on the season, while his 7.6 points per game average are fifth in the league. Ryland needs just 19 points to surpass Andrew Wellock (2003-06) for the most career points in EMU history at 299. He currently ranks 21st among active kickers in the FBS with 48 field goals made while coming in 34th in PAT percentage at 97.2. - MAC Football

SEPT 27 MAC WEST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chad Ryland, Eastern Michigan, Kicker, Junior, Lebanon, Pa. (Cedar Crest),...Ryland put eight extra points through the uprights against Texas State, Sept. 25. Ryland's eight PAT makes are tied f or the most in a single game in program history. The last player to hit the mark was Paulie Fricano, who did it versus Ball State, Nov. 15, 2017. Additionally, with his eighth make of the day, Ryland passed Justin Ventura (1995-98) for the all-time progr am record in point-after makes (114). Additionally, Ryland's eight PAT makes are the most in a single game in the conference this year. 2020 ALL-MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Placekicker - Chad Ryland, Eastern Michigan,...Ryland, who was awarded a scholarship prior to the start of the season, led the MAC and ranked sixth in field goals per game (1.83) in 2020. He was sec ond in the MAC and 18th nationally in field goal percentage at 84.6 percent (11-of-13). His most impressive kick of the season came against Ball State, Nov. 11, where he drilled a season-best 52-yarder, which is tied for the second longest in school-hist ory. Additionally, he tied the school record with four made field goals in an upset victory of then-MAC West Division leader Western Michigan, Dec. 5. A two-time MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week in 2020, Ryland ranks third all-time in PATs made (94) and fourth in PATs attempted (98) at EMU. DEC 14 MAC WEST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chad Ryland, Eastern Michigan, K, Junior, Lebanon, Pa. (Cedar Crest),...Ryland became Eastern Michigan's third all-time leader in made extra points (94) after he went 5-for-5 on PATs in EMU's vic tory over Northern Illinois, 41-33, Dec. 12. For Ryland, the five made extra points marked the second-consecutive game he's knocked in at least five PATs, and the sixth time he's accomplished the feat in his career. In addition to his five extra points, the Pennsylvania native nailed two field goals (39, 24) to topple the Huskies.The pair of field goals extended his flawless kicking streak to nine-straight with his last miss being a 53-yard try against Ball State, Nov. 11. The Cedar Crest, Pa.-pr oduct ultimately earned 11 points for the Eagles against Northern Illinois, marking the third time in the six-game season that Ryland has notched at least 10 points. Previously, Ryland had only recorded a game of 10-plus points twice (Pittsburgh, 2019, a nd Northern Illinois, 2018). Ryland also recorded his first-ever punt on a fake field goal attempt during the NIU contest.
