  2021 ALL-SUN BELT FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB - Silas Kelly, Coastal Carolina (Super Sr., LB - Mount Airy, Md.),...Earning his first All-Sun Belt first-team honor and fourth all-conference accolade overall, Kelly leads the Chants and ranks third in the Sun Belt with 96 total tackles and an average of 8.0 per game. He finished the regular season with 8.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, and a SportsCenter Top-10 (No. 3) interception at South Alabama (Nov. 26). His 69 tackles in conference play were second, while his 2.5 sacks were the most among the top-eight tacklers in Sun Belt play this season. The super senior has recorded six tackles or more in six different games, including registering a career-high 12 tackles versus Georgia State (Nov. 13). He also became just the third Chant in program history to total 300 career tackles and enters the bowl game with 326 total stops as a Chant. - Coastal Carolina Football

  Coastal Carolina football student-athletes Tarron Jackson and Silas Kelly were both named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I football first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced on Monday. The pair become just the sixth and seventh Chanticleers to earn the distinguished academic All-America honor, joining two-time recipient Josh Hoke (2005 and 2006), Marcus Lott (2011), Alex Ross (2015), and Jonathan Clayton (2019).

The duo also becomes just the second and third CCU football student-athletes to be named the first team, joining Hoke who picked up first-team honors in 2005 and 2006. To be eligible, a student-athlete has to have been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District football team, recorded a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA), and have played in over 50 percent of the team's games on the season. - Coastal Carolina football

  2020 MAYO CLINIC NATIONAL COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNER: Coastal Carolina linebacker Silas Kelly,...The 6-4 foot, 230-pound linebacker from South Carroll Senior High School in Mount Airy, Md. broke his hand in the first game of the 2019 season and then tore his ACL in the season's second game against Kansas during the Chanticleers first-ever win over a Power 5 school. Following knee surgery, he worked hard to return to spring practice but was forced to have a second operation on his knee in early spring. He was back in the middle for Coastal Carolina to open the 2020 season against Kansas.

The following week versus Campbell he recorded eight tackles and two sacks to earn Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Kelly registered a career-high 12 tackles in the win over South Alabama. He also had 8.0 tackles in wins at Kansas, at then-No. 21 Louisiana, and versus Georgia Southern, and added nine stops against Appalachian State. For the season, Kelly led Coastal Carolina with 80 tackles and added 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 5.0 sacks, and an interception. His 5.0 sacks were tied for eighth in the Sun Belt, while his 80 total stops were ninth in the conference on the year. - Coastal Carolina Football

  2020 ALL-SUN BELT CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM: Silas Kelly, Coastal Carolina, LB,...A 2020 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award finalist after missing the last 10 games of last season due to an ACL tear in his knee, Kelly leads the team and ranks 13th in the Sun Belt with 72 total tackles, an average of 6.5 per contest, on a very well balanced defensive team. He is fourth on the team and ninth in the Sun Belt with 4.5 sacks on the season to go along with 5.5 tackles-for-loss, one interception, and one fumble recovery from his middle linebacker position all while missing all but the final series of the game versus Troy in the regular-season finale. - Coastal Carolina Football

  Coastal Carolina redshirt senior linebacker Silas Kelly has been added to the 2020 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in association with The Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization. Kelly, who was injured in the second game of the season last year at Kansas (Sept. 7, 2019), leads the team with 67 tackles, 5.0 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, and an interception this year. He has totaled 8.0 tackles in six of the Chants' nine games this season, including a career-high 12 tackles in the home win over South Alabama (Nov. 7). - Coastal Carolina Football

  2019 PRESEASON WUERFFEL TROPHY WATCH LIST: Silas Kelly, Coastal Carolina, Junior, LB,...A two-time All-Sun Belt honorable mention selection, Kelly was named to both the 2019 Phil Steele and the 2019 Athlon preseason All-Sun Belt fourth teams this preseason. A two-time Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List honoree and a 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District first team selection, the Maryland native played in 11 games, starting 10 at linebacker las season.

He was second on the team with 60 tackles and 5.5 tackles per game, despite missing almost a full two games due to an injury. Kelly recorded six tackles or more in seven games on the season at his linebacker position and registered 3.0 tackles-for-loss, 1.0 sack, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups on the year. Off the field and in the community, Kelly has been a big part of several of Coastal Carolina athletics' community events including volunteering at A Night to Shine and Caring for Kindergarteners, as well as reading to children at various schools around the Conway and Myrtle Beach area. - Coastal Carolina Football
