Georgia State senior offensive lineman Shamarious Gilmore, the only four-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection in GSU history, has been named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy for the second straight year. The prestigious Outland Trophy has been awarded since 1946 to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman on offense or defense. The preseason watch list, announced Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America, recognizes 80 returning standout interior linemen. Gilmore, the super senior from Riverdale, Ga., and Drew High School, is a four-year starter at left guard who has started 47 straight games. He is a key figure in the top three rushing seasons in program history in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and has helped the Panthers average 221 yards rushing, 433 yards of total offense and 32 points per game over the last two years. - Georgia State Football

The offensive promise of this year's Georgia State football team is obvious from the choice of four players as first-team selections on the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team that was announced Tuesday. Six other players were included on the second team, two on offense and four on defense. Georgia State, which was 6-4 and won the LendingTree Bowl last season, returns 11 starters from the team that averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game. The Panthers return nine starters from a defense that ranked seventh in the nation in sacks, with 35.

Named to the first team were running back Destin Coates, guard Shamarious Gilmore, receiver Sam Pinckney and kicker Noel Ruiz. Second-team selections were tight end Roger Carter, receiver Cornelius McCoy, defensive linemen Hardrick Willis and Dontae Wilson, and defensive backs Antavious Lane and Quavian White. The Panthers were picked to finish third in the East Division by the conference coaches, behind Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State, who tied for first, and ahead of Georgia Southern and Troy. Louisiana-Lafayette was picked to win the West Division. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

To say that All-Sun Belt Conference offensive guard and team captain Shamarious Gilmore is the elder statesman of the Georgia State program would be an understatement. One of six "super seniors" who have elected to utilize the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic, Gilmore is the only one who has been in the program for six years. He enrolled at Georgia State in the fall of 2016 and took a redshirt year. Gilmore earned a starting berth as a redshirt freshman, and he has been in the lineup ever since. Not only has he started 47 consecutive games on the offensive line, but he has rarely come out of the game.

During that time, he has been a key figure in the top three rushing seasons in program history in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and has helped the Panthers average 221 yards rushing, 433 yards of total offense and 32 points per game over the last two years. Gilmore is the first player in GSU history to be a four-time all-conference selection, including first-team All-Sun Belt honors last season. He also made history as the first, and still the only, GSU offensive lineman to score a touchdown. He realized that lineman's dream as a freshman in 2017 at Charlotte, when he recovered a fumble in the end zone after a blocked field goal. Known as "Quion," his full name is Shamarious Da'Quion Bernard Gilmore. - Georgia State Football

With the college football season just over two months away, now is the time for fans to quench their appetite with preseason magazines. Phil Steele's College Football Preview recently hit the streets featuring 14 Panthers on its Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference teams, led by four first-team selections: RB Destin Coates, WR Sam Pinckney, G Shamarious Gilmore and PK Noel Ruiz.

Six more Panthers made Phil Steele's Preseason All-Sun Belt second team: TE Roger Carter on the offensive side, as wells as NG Dontae Wilson, DE Hardrick Willis, ILB Blake Carroll, CB Quavian White and S Antavious Lane. That's five members of a Georgia State defense that ranked in the Top 10 in FBS in sacks and turnovers created while setting a school record for fewest rushing yards per carry allowed. - Georgia State Football

His name is Shamarious, but his friends call him Quion (Da'Quion is his middle name) or Kwon. The 6-3, 295-pound senior from Drew High is a three-year starter and last year helped the team set school records for rushing yards and total offense. Gilmore is the most decorated player on the team. He was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt choice in 2017 and 2018, a third-team selection in 2019 and a first-team preseason selection this season. He was named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy. "He's been playing forever," Elliott said. "I don't know many snaps he's had, but he's almost played every down the last three seasons. That's crazy to think about. He's seen so much football, he just has great knowledge and knows what to expect. No moment is too big for him." Gilmore is one of four returning starters on one of the most experienced group of returning linemen in the conference. - Marietta Daily Journal
