A mini-pipeline of transfers from Syracuse to Kent State appears to soon include a former tight end. Aaron Hackett announced Wednesday he intends to transfer to Kent State and play for head coach Sean Lewis, who served as SU's offensive coordinator for two seasons in 2016-17, including Hackett's freshman season. Hackett had previously announced a verbal commitment to Texas Christian University after submitting his name into the NCAA's transfer portal after the 2020 season. He would join former Syracuse receiver/return specialist Nykeim Johnson as new additions to the Kent State roster. Former Syracuse linebacker Juan Wallace is also eligible for the Golden Flashes after sitting out the 2020 season because of NCAA transfer rules. - The Post-Standard

Hackett is expected to graduate from Syracuse in May and join TCU this summer as a graduate transfer. He'll be eligible to play this fall. Hackett will provide much-needed depth at tight end as TCU lost Pro Wells and Artayvious Lynn to the NFL Draft. Along with Hackett, TCU has added tight ends D.J. Rogers and Jasper Lott this offseason. Rogers is a former 2020 four-star recruit who didn't enroll in school last season, while Lott is a 2021 recruit who some view as a future offensive lineman. The Frogs' top returner is senior Carter Ware, who started six games last season. Ware is known as more of a blocking tight end, finishing with three catches for 40 yards including one TD reception last season. Hackett, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 237 pounds, is coming off a 2020 season in which he had 10 catches for 63 yards, including two touchdowns, in nine games. His best season came in 2019 when he had 23 catches for 205 yards and six TDs. - Fort Worth Star

A former Syracuse tight end will play out his final season in the Big 12. Aaron Hackett will transfer to TCU, he posted Monday afternoon on Twitter. Hackett entered the transfer portal in December but had been unsure whether he will pursue a pro career or play a fifth year at a new school. Hackett caught 10 passes for 63 yards and a pair of scores last season, well short of his production as a junior in 2019, when he caught 23 passes for 205 yards and six touchdowns. That year he earned Syracuse's in-house Bill Maxwell Award as the team's most improved player on offense. - The Post-Standard

Syracuse tight end Aaron Hackett will not return to Syracuse next season, he told syracuse.com. Hackett says he is weighing whether to turn pro or transfer to another school. He has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a formal process that gives other schools the OK to recruit him. Though undecided on his next step, he says he won't return to Syracuse for a final season of eligibility. His departure is a bit of a surprise given his comments last month that he'd be "more than happy to come back here for an extra year."

Hackett said he considered sitting out the 2020 season after spending much of the preseason rehabbing a pectoral injury. He battled other injuries this past season while primarily being used as a blocking tight end given some limitations along the offensive line. Hackett said he was hospitalized for precautionary reasons in Louisville on Nov. 20 after absorbing a hit during SU's 30-0 loss. Hackett sustained bruises to his ribs, abdomen and spleen during the game. He flew home with the team after the game and returned to the field to finish out the final two games of the season. As a senior, Hackett finished with 10 catches for 63 yards and a pair of scores. To put that in perspective, he caught 23 passes for 205 yards and six touchdowns as a junior, earning Syracuse's in-house Bill Maxwell Award as the team's most improved player on offense. - Syracuse.com
