After making two interceptions in UL's 44-34 win at Texas State on Saturday, it wasn't surprising to hear cornerback Eric Garror's response. "We just came out and had a ball," Garror said. In a literal sense, the Cajuns (5-1, 3-1 Sun Belt) sure did. But it wasn't necessarily fun. UL was flagged three times for defensive for defensive interference, and twice Garror was on the receiving end of those flags. There was no postgame celebration, Garror said, because the Cajuns "know we didn't play to our best ability." "We can't control that, because we're not referees," the junior from Mobile said with reference to the penalties. "It was very frustrating. But we just had to come back the next and play."

The tight calls kept UL from playing its preferred aggressive pass defense, something it suspected might happen. "We play tight man coverage like that every week," said UL coach Billy Napier, whose Cajuns were tagged with six pass interference penalties or personal fouls in the first half alone. "I think this (officiating) crew that we had, you know, they've called more DPIs and holdings than any other crew in the Sun Belt. "We knew that coming in. We talked to the players about it. But it's a product of how we play," Napier added. "We've got to make better decisions. We've got to use the correct technique. We've got to play with more poise and more discipline." - Daily Advertiser

Louisiana-Lafayette got kick and punt returns for touchdowns to help secure one of its biggest wins in program history, 31-14 win over No. 23 Iowa State on Saturday. On a day when both offenses seemed overmatched, the Ragin' Cajuns were ignited by Chris Smith's 95-yard kickoff return in the second quarter and Eric Garror's 83-yard punt return in the third. Levi Lewis also threw a 78-yard scoring pass to Peter LeBlanc to give Louisiana-Lafayette a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter. Louisiana-Lafayette beat a Top 25 opponent for the first time, having gone 0-26 against ranked foes away from home. The Ragin' Cajuns' only other win over a Top 25 team was in 1996 at home against Texas A&M. The Ragin' Cajuns limited Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy to 16-of-35 passing for 145 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception. It was ISU's fewest passing yards in two years. Iowa State's Breece Hall rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. - AP College/Louisiana-Lafayette Football
