Christian Beal-Smith, South Carolina, Player News

Christian Beal-Smith, the former East Forsyth star who spent four seasons at Wake Forest before transferring to South Carolina, announced on Friday that he is forgoing his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft. "After much prayer and thoughtful consideration with my family, I would like to announce that I will be declaring for the 2023 Draft in order to pursue a lifelong dream of playing in the NFL," Beal-Smith wrote on his Instagram page.

Beal-Smith's addition at South Carolina one year ago continued a run of offseason luck for the Gamecocks and Coach Shane Beamer. Former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and tight end Austin Stogner joined the program last month and helped South Carolina get to an 8-4 regular-season record before its 45-38 loss to Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl. In four seasons at Wake Forest, Beal-Smith rushed for 1,871 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best season was in 2020, when he ran for 732 yards and five touchdowns. He ran for 604 yards in 2021 and scored seven touchdowns. Beal-Smith added 21 receptions for 128 yards, but didn't catch a scoring pass. - Winston Salem Journal

Christian Beal-Smith ran for two touchdowns while Ja'Sir Taylor scored on a 99-yard kickoff return to help Wake Forest beat Old Dominion 42-10 in Friday night's season opener for both teams. It marked the Monarchs' return to the field after not playing last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Beal-Smith ran untouched around the left end and sprinted down the sideline for a 48-yard touchdown in the first quarter to get the Demon Deacons on the board. Then, after the Monarchs managed a field goal, Taylor came through with his huge return that squashed any fleeting momentum for ODU. The cornerback broke through an arm-tackle attempt and stayed on his feet through a stumble around the 20-yard line, then kicked into gear and down the sideline for the 99-yard score and a 14-3 lead. - Wake Forest/AP College Football

Christian Beal-Smith ran for three touchdowns and Donavon Greene returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown as Wake Forest won for the first time this season by defeating Campbell 66-14 on Friday night. Wake Forest (1-2) matched the fourth-most points in program history, aided by collecting four Campbell turnovers. "I liked the turnovers," Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson said. "I liked the pressure we got and the sacks we got." Beal-Smith scored from 2 and 10 yards out in the first quarter, giving the redshirt junior his first career two-touchdown game. He tacked on a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Kenneth Walker III scored on a 12-yard run, Sam Hartman threw a touchdown pass and Zion Keith returned an interception 45 yards for a score as part of Wake Forest's domination. Greene's return marked the Demon Deacons' first kickoff return for a touchdown in 13 years. "There was like three major blocks I was reading," Greene said. Hartman completed 12 of 16 passes for 166 yards as the Demon Deacons won in their lone nonconference outing of the season. Campbell (0-4), a Football Championship Subdivision program, completed its abbreviated fall schedule, which consisted of four road games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. - Wake Forest/AP College Football
