  10/20/22 - DE JB BrownrSr/2024, Massachusetts, 6-1, 280 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Veteran Arizona defensive lineman JB Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Brown would have played a role in the Wildcats' rotation this year but suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during preseason camp. Brown began his UA career in 2017. He has appeared in only four games over the past three seasons. Brown opted out of the pandemic-shortened '20 season and appeared in the first four games last year before sitting out the rest of the campaign for reasons that have never been disclosed publicly. Because the '20 season doesn't count toward any player's eligibility and Brown preserved a redshirt last year he'd be able to play in 2023 as a seventh-year senior. Brown finishes his UA career with 61 tackles, 14.5 stops for losses (including 6.5 sacks) and one forced fumble in 32 games. - Arizona Star News

  01/06/21 - DE JB BrownrSr/2024, Massachusetts, 6-1, 280 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Arizona defensive lineman JB Brown, who opted out of the 2020 football season because of COVID-19 concerns, will return to the Wildcats in '21, he told the Star Tuesday morning. The 6-foot-3-inch, 267-pound Los Angeles-area native, initially recruited by the Rich Rodriguez regime out of Long Beach Poly High School as an outside linebacker, has played on Arizona's defensive line since the 2017 season. In two seasons under Kevin Sumlin, Brown played in all 24 games, including 14 starts, at defensive end and, in certain stunts, defensive tackle. Brown was one of two UA defensive lineman to announce on Tuesday his plan to play for Arizona in '21. The 6-5, 305-pound Trevon Mason is the other. - Arizona Star News

  10/11/20 - DE JB BrownrSr/2024, Massachusetts, 6-1, 280 (DS#999 DE) + More +

The Arizona Wildcats will be without two projected rotation players for the 2020 season, and a third is away from the team indefinitely. Tailback Bam Smith and defensive end JB Brown have opted out because of COVID-19 concerns, UA coach Kevin Sumlin announced after the first practice of fall camp Friday night. Meanwhile, receiver Jalen Johnson has been suspended for a violation of team rules. Smith, a redshirt sophomore, rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown last season, averaging 6.0 yards per attempt. He also caught 12 passes for 181 yards and two scores. JB Brown was entering his senior season. He appeared to be on the verge of a breakout after recording 7.5 tackles for losses, including 3.5 sacks, as a sophomore. He wasn't as impactful as a junior (five TFLs, three sacks), and it was unclear where the 6-3, 267-pounder would fit in new defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads' 3-4 scheme. - Arizona Star News
