MSU nearly had to start from scratch up front until senior Jacub Panasiuk reversed his August decision to opt out. The 6-4, 250-pound defensive end is MSU's only returning starter on the defensive line; he had 11 of his 34 tackles for a loss, including five sacks and six QB hurries last season. "I know this, it made us better coaches when he came back," joked Hazelton, who ran Kansas State's defense last year. "I mean, that's what you want - a guy who can rush the passer and do some things and provide a little leadership. It's just the amount of plays and the experience that he's got, just made us better by him coming back." - Lansing State Journal

Michigan State's football team is back on the field, but if it, indeed, plays this fall, it will do so without defensive end Jacub Panasiuk. The senior announced on Twitter Wednesday that he intends to sit out the 2020 season as a redshirt and return for his final season with the Spartans in 2021. Panasiuk, the younger brother of former Michigan State defensive tackle Mike Panasiuk, has 80 tackles, including 18 1/2 for a loss, eight sacks and four forced fumbles in 38 career games. Last season, Panasiuk had 34 tackles, including 11 tackles for a loss and five sacks. - The Detroit News

Michigan State defensive lineman Jacub Panasiuk has been ejected from Saturday's game at No. 14 Michigan after a roughing the passer penalty in the fourth quarter. The official announced that Panasiuk was called for a "flagrant" penalty, and he was removed from the game with Michigan leading 34-10. It's been a flag-filled game with plenty of 15-yard penalties -- no surprise for a matchup between these in-state rivals. The teams combined for 136 yards in penalties through the first three quarters. - AP College Football
