Saying he has "some unfinished business to take care of," UA defensive lineman Jalen Harris tweeted Friday that he will return for a sixth season. Harris had been considering turning pro. The son of former "Desert Swarm" and NFL standout Sean Harris, Jalen Harris posted a career-high 48 tackles as a fifth-year junior. He added three sacks and the first forced fumble of his career. The 6-foot-5-inch, 255-pound Harris will play next season alongside his brother Jason, a transfer from Colorado. Jason Harris did not see the field this fall. - Arizona Star News

The No. 1 jersey will not be the exclusive domain of receiver Stanley Berryhill. Arizona announced Monday that a second player, defensive end Jalen Harris, has earned the right to wear No. 1. Players can wear duplicate jersey numbers in college if they play on opposite sides of the ball. Like Berryhill, Harris is entering his fifth year as a Wildcat and has put together a sterling offseason. Nine players were in the running for the No. 1, which was to be awarded based on academic achievement, community service, workout attendance and on-field performance. Harris has 74 tackles, including 13 stops for losses (seven sacks), in 32 career games. He had a career-high three passes defensed last season. - Arizona Star News

How will Don Brown's system bring out the best in defensive ends Harris and JB Brown? "Dr. Blitz" isn't just a nickname for Don Brown. It's a way of life. His scheme is based on bringing pressure. It could come from anywhere. But when you look at the leading sackers from Brown's time at Michigan, the production mainly came from expected spots. Among the players who ranked first or second in sacks in Brown's five seasons with the Wolverines, only one) wasn't a defensive lineman or strongside linebacker (defensive back Khaleke Hudson, in 2017). The names that popped up most frequently: Kwity Paye (DE), Josh Uche (SLB) and Chase Winovich (DE). Each ranked in the top two (including ties) twice over that span.

There are two logical explanations for this: (1) Edge rushers are put in that position for a reason; and (2) by sending blitzers from all angles, it creates openings and one-on-one matchups for those edge rushers. In short: Brown's system will benefit Harris and JB Brown. Harris primarily played as an outside linebacker in a conservative 3-4 scheme last season under Paul Rhoads. Harris played a lot better than his lack of sacks would suggest. Harris had 18 tackles in four games. That projects to 54 in 12 games, which would have doubled his career high. - Arizona Star News

Only one voter didn't pick the Arizona Wildcats to finish last in the Pac-12 South in the league's annual media poll. The UA, riding a school-record 12-game losing streak, received a league-low 41 points. Sixth-place selections are worth one point apiece. Forty media members voted in the poll. Two-time defending champion Oregon was picked to win the league. The media have the Ducks defeating South Division champ USC in the Pac-12 Championship Game in what would be a rematch of last year's contest. Arizona State was picked to finish third in the South behind USC and Utah. The Sun Devils received six first-place votes. Ten media members picked USC to win the Pac-12. Three selected Utah. - Arizona Star News

One of Arizona's top defensive players, outside linebacker Jalen Harris, is taking a wait-and-see approach regarding his future. Harris wants to find out who the new coach will be, and what kind of defensive system he'll run, before deciding his next move. The redshirt junior has three options: return to the UA, enter the NFL draft or leave as a graduate transfer. Harris appeared in four of Arizona's five games this season and tied for the team lead with three pass breakups. He had 18 tackles, including 2.5 for losses. Harris did not record a sack, but he was asked to drop into coverage more than in previous seasons under new defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads. - Arizona Star News
