Mathew Sexton, Eastern Michigan, Player News

SEPT 23/WEEK 4 MAC WEST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eastern Michigan WR Mathew Sexton,...Eastern Michigan senior wide receiver Mathew Sexton (Clinton, Mich.) made the game-winning play with a blocked punt and return of 30 yards for a touchdown in a 34-29 win over Central Connecticut State. With Eastern Michigan trailing 29-28 with 20 seconds left in regulation, Sexton made the defining play as he broke through and blocked the punt, recovered the ball in stride and scored the game-winning touchdown for a 34-29 win with 10 seconds left in regulation. Sexton was also responsible for Eastern Michigan's last blocked punt, which occurred during the 2018 Raycom Media Camellia Bowl against Georgia Southern on Dec. 15, 2018. Eastern Michigan has blocked six punts in six years under head coach Chris Creighton, with three of the blocked punts returned for touchdowns. This year, the Eagles rank first in the MAC, and fifth-nationally, in blocked punts. - Mid-American Conference Football
