  05/13/20 - QB Steven DuncanrSr/2023, Tarleton, 6-4, 235 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Former Western Kentucky quarterback Steven Duncan will play his next two seasons in Texas. The Hilltoppers' quarterback at the start of the 2019 season shared via Twitter on Tuesday he intends to transfer and play at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. Duncan recently graduated from WKU and will be immediately eligible to play for the school competing as an independent member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in its first year of NCAA Division I.

The Charleston, S.C., native was the Hilltoppers' starting quarterback to begin 2019 before an injury ended his season against Louisville. He went 1-2 and was the presumed starter for the fall going into the offseason. But the veteran quarterback announced in April he intended to graduate this spring and enter the transfer portal. Duncan completed 70 passes for 790 yards and five touchdowns against four interceptions in his three games last fall. He led WKU in passing as a redshirt sophomore in 2018 with 1,071 yards on 108 completions with nine touchdowns. He also leaves WKU with 203 rushing yards. - BG Daily News

  04/20/20 - QB Steven DuncanrSr/2023, Tarleton, 6-4, 235 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Western Kentucky's most experienced quarterback is leaving the program. Steven Duncan, who started the first three games of the 2019 season before an injury, announced via Twitter on Monday he is entering the transfer portal. The redshirt junior has two years of eligibility remaining after an injury against Louisville in the third game of the year caused him to miss the rest of the season and pick up a medical redshirt. Duncan was the assumed front-runner to win the Hilltoppers' starting quarterback job again in 2020. Now coach Tyson Helton will either lean on the young members of WKU's current quarterback room or continue exploring the market for a transfer.

Duncan completed 70-of-119 pass attempts for 790 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in three starts before suffering a season-ending foot injury in the third quarter against Louisville on Sept. 14. The Charleston, S.C., native edged out senior transfer Ty Storey for the starting job before the season. Storey took over after Duncan's injury and led the team to a 9-4 record and a bowl win, earning the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year honor. Duncan led WKU in passing as a redshirt sophomore with 1,071 yards on 108 completions with nine touchdowns. He'll also leave WKU with 203 rushing yards. - BG Daily News

Gaej Walker ran for a touchdown, Steven Duncan passed for another and the Western Kentucky defense made a big goal-line stand as the Hilltoppers defeated Florida International 20-14 in a Conference USA opener on Saturday. Late in the fourth quarter with WKU leading 20-14, FIU had 2nd-and-goal from the 2-yard line. WKU defensive back Dionte Ruffin hit Panthers quarterback Kaylan Wiggins in the backfield, forcing a fumble. Wiggins recovered the ball at the 16 but was attended to on the field after the play and was removed from the game. James Morgan, who had started the game, then threw incomplete on third and fourth downs. Western Kentucky took over and was able to run out the clock after gaining one first down.

Duncan threw 8 yards to Jahcour Pearson for a touchdown to open the scoring. FIU tied it later in the first quarter when Richard Dames scored on an 80-yard return after interception of a Duncan pass. Walker, who gained 100 yards on 27 carries, ran 2 yards for a touchdown and WKU led 14-7 at halftime. The Hilltoppers allowed just 14 first downs, 217 yards and one offensive touchdown, a 15-yard run by Napoleon Maxwell in the third quarter that made the score 17-14 in favor of Western Kentucky. Cory Munson added his second field goal of the game, a 44-yarder early in the fourth quarter. Duncan completed 19 of 33 passes for 241 yards with the one touchdown and two interceptions. Morgan was 3 of 11 for 25 yards; Wiggins 2 of 6 for 41 yards. - AP College Football
